About

Julien Neaves (Founder, Editor, Sci Fi & Caribbean Head Writer)

profile picture

I am a writer and lifelong tv/movie lover from the beautiful twin island nation of Trinidad and Tobago, which is found in the Caribbean. I inject humour into my posts so occasionally you may stumble upon a joke or two. And they may even be funny.

I love ranking movies, especially comics and sci fi, and I do a lot of stuff on British sci fi show Doctor Who. I am also a huge supporter of Cariwood (Caribbean film) you will also find reviews of films from our beautiful region. The name of this site is inspired by the red mango which is a Trinidadian preservative snack that can be sweet or spicy, just like these reviews and just like me. Oh yeah!

You can find me on Instagram as redmanwriter, on Twitter at redmanrev, and I co-admin the Facebook Movieville where I also chat about trailers, movie news and all that good stuff.

My earliest memory of seeing a horror movie was John Carpenter’s The Thing. I remember my cousins and friends
freaking out, my parents rushing in to switch of the televsion, while trying not to have dual heart attacks and eight-year-old me, mesmerized at what I thought was the coolest thing I’d ever seen.

I fell in love with the horror movie genre and never looked back, but movies in general are my thing. I can talk about them, good, bad and really bad all day long and never get bored.

I think no Popcorn at the movies is sacrilege, black cats are magic and sushi is the perfect food.

Alicia Longchallon-Veliz aka Alice Oscura (Featured Writer and Paranormal Investigations Head Writer)

I have always had a love for writing stories and storytelling. I would sit and listen to my father recall stories of his adventures and ghost stories. I think he fueled my imagination. I love movies/TV because you can pull yourself away from reality just for a little while. I like to review movies based mostly on true stories and historical events that can inspire others to be a better version of themselves. I like to share knowledge and fun facts in my reviews to bring out the readers curiosity.

If you want to know anything about Classic Hollywood, I am your gal because I simply adore the timeline. I aspire to one day write my own novel and I am a big believer in that it is never too late to start pursuing your dreams.

So, if you want to follow me and check out my reviews, historical facts, and lifestyle tips then you catch me on Twitter @lise_veliz2, Instagram alice_oscura, and Facebook at Dark Alice Reviews.

Wayne Rock (Featured Writer, Comic 2 Screen & Anime Head Writer)

My love for dissecting film, TV and media in general was born from my family’s inability to simply just watch anything. Following family movie night, we would always get into deep discussions about character motivations, deeper meanings of specific scenes and what the movie’s impact had on us. From this I developed a love for analysing film and TV that is deeper than even my love for film and TV.

Eventually the cinema became a thing of the past for my family, but they should have never awoken that beast in me. I would spend a large part of my teen and young adult years sneaking to the cinema behind my parents’ back, then discussing it with my friends afterwards.

Because of this, my brain is a giant repository of useless pop culture facts and more often than not, I can tell you an actor’s name just by seeing them, whether you asked me or not. I love complaining about terrible movies more than I love watching good ones and I’ve been likened to a Trinidadian version of Cosmonaut Variety Hour, which I’m fine with. If you want to know anything anime, video game or comic-related, I’m your guy.

If you like my writing, you’ll love my videos even more because you really get to hear the rage in my voice. You can find me over at RockLee Productions on YouTube and Facebook where I post two videos a year.
