Unhinged is a Thrill Ride of a Thriller: Quick Bite Review

Sommerleigh Pollonais – Senior Writer

“As you know, madness is like gravity…all it takes is a little push.” I think the Joker would definitely approve of Russell Crowe’s character in Unhinged.

It is the story about a woman who has the bad luck of crossing a man who has just killed his wife and her lover, and who decides she needs to learn what it means to have a really bad day.

As a thriller, Unhinged delivers. Once the “bad day” begins, it doesn’t let up and easily the strength of this film is Crowe enjoying the hell out of being the bad guy. It’s like the director told him “remember your role in L.A. Confidential? Yeah, be that guy ON ACID!” Both Crowe and Caren Pistorius as Rachel do a tremendous job of making this thriller, well, thrilling!

The pacing is tight, and while there isn’t much else going on in terms of story, it really didn’t need anything else. This is a case of road rage taken to the extreme and that was all the story I needed to enjoy myself.

Car chases, brutality and a gnarly use of a coffee mug, Unhinged will definitely please fans of the genre. If you want more of my take on this film you can check out my video review here.
